Business Computer Design (BCD) has released Version 7 of WebSmart, its modernization software for Power Systems running IBM i. WebSmart's support for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) now gives the ILE edition the ability to interact with an LDAP server. The new features let users create connections to different LDAP sources and develop, display, modify, and delete entries in those sources. BCD has added SmartSnippets wizards to WebSmart 7 to help users code PML and PHP functions. The wizards are dynamic prompts that guide users through creating dropdown boxes, calling RPG programs in PHP, and generating Smurf IDs, among other things. Another new feature, Copy Templates, accommodates WebSmart users who create their own custom-template families. With Version 7, each time you install WebSmart ILE on a new Power System running IBM i, WebSmart will create a separate repository for all the programmatic components used on that server. You can easily toggle between the repositories with a dropdown box in the WebSmart IDE Repository window. Other enhancements include advanced support for Java Database Connectivity (JDC), new date and time functions, custom variable name options, and a green-screen debugger.
