BOSaNOVA expands its security offerings with the Q3 Storage Security Encryption appliance. The device attaches to a tape drive port on the System i, into which users can plug standard tape drives. The appliance detects the SCSI ID of the tape drive and automatically sets its own ID to the same address, so all data sent from the system passes through Q3 and is encrypted before reaching the drive. Q3 includes two-factor authentication, with dual soft keys entered by users and a hard key unique to each specific customer.
