Changing Separator Page Layout

Article ID: 15030

Q: Because I want separator pages to print between spooled files, I use command ChgWtr (Change Writer) to set the number of separator pages (FileSep parameter) to 1. When I do so, I get a separator page, but the text is small and in the left corner. How can I modify the separator page so that the text is larger and centered on the page?

A: First, separator pages come in two varieties — job separators and file separators. You specify job separators in the output queue description's job separators (JobSep) parameter. Job separators cause separator page(s) to print at the beginning (i.e., before the first of a job's spooled files) of the printed output for each job. You specify file separators at the printer file or printer writer level in the File separators (FileSep) parameter. File separators cause separator page(s) to print before each spooled file.

I am unaware of any way to modify these separator pages; however, there is a way to create your own customized separator pages. You do so with a user exit program that you in turn specify in the printer device description's Separator program (SepPgm) parameter. You can find more information about separator pages in Printer Device Programming : (SC41-5713) at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/pubs/html/as400/v5r1/ic2924/books/c4157134.pdf. You'll also find a sample exit program in the QUsrTool library. For information about the sample, see member TBSInfo in file QATTInfo in library QUsrTool.
