BCD Launches Public Beta for PHP IDE

Business Computer Design International, Inc. (BCD), announces a public beta release of WebSmart PHP, its interactive development environment for the PHP language on the System i. WebSmart PHP, which BCD initially announced at Anaheim COMMON, helps programmers with no PHP experience build PHP-based web applications that run on the System i, Linux, Unix, and Windows servers. The product features more than 50 application templates, step-by-step instructions, and extensive online help that links to Zend Corporation's PHP website.

NGS Unveils Financial Analytics Solution for System i

New Generation Software (NGS) announces Decision Assist - Financial Performance, a financial analytics solution for System i customers and ISVs who want financial reporting and analysis of System i general-ledger data without having to remove it from the server for processing.

The solution integrates with DB2 data through the use of Adobe Flash and Microsoft Office software. It includes a web portal, financial performance dashboards, multidimensional models, Excel spreadsheets, and reports, all built over a System i-resident DB2 data mart.

Users can access dashboards for revenue, profit, expenses, and income as well as actual spending versus projected budget. Output options include downloading to the OLAP module of NGS-IQ, PDF files, and HTML. The solution runs on V5R1 and later.

Help/Systems, Inc., releases Robot/LPAR 2.0, the latest version of its operations automation tool that lets users move memory, processor, and device resources across partitions, either interactively or in batch. Version 2.0 communicates with the Hardware Management Console from an i5/OS partition to help manage System i resources. Robot/LPAR offers both a green-screen and a command-line interface that lets users set a base level for memory and processor resources in a partition, move memory and processors between partitions to fine-tune settings, and display current resource levels and settings. Robot/LPAR also moves IOA and IOP devices (e.g., tape drives and optical devices) between partitions, either interactively via green-screen menus, or in batch using Help/Systems' Robot/SCHEDULE product.

Users can locate backed-up files via the ROBOark feature, which offers a round-the-clock archive and retrieval capability for all stored files.

In addition to DR, the solution also lets managers decrease storage through built-in data de-duplication and compression capabilities.
