United Computer Group is offering VAULT400 Agent 6.0 for i. VAULT400 backs up business-critical data on the System i for immediate online recovery by taking a point-in-time backup during each scheduled session. If a restore is needed, VAULT400 can provide the data from any specific backup. The upgrade provides performance, security, ease of use, and integration improvements. VAULT400 Agent 6.0 features patented new DeltaPro enhancements meant to speed seeding, restore, and backup of small object workflows. DeltaPro is a processing technology that transmits only those new files and portions of existing files that have changed since the last backup, while still supporting a full restore from any point in time. In the update, new bandwidth throttling minimizes disruptions during backups, and the update offers faster backups by regenerating the delta file index when it is missing or corrupt in order to eliminate a reseed of data to the Vault. "The bottom line is that this new upgrade will greatly minimize the amount of data being sent and the internet pipe required," says James Kandrac, president of UGC. Kandrac explains that 100 GB of DB2 data will compress to approximately 15GB for the initial seed, then VAULT400 will select just bit/block changes or approximately 400 MB to utilize less disk space, and users will get access to 24 save sets of five days, four weeks, 12 monthlies, and three annuals online and constantly available. "The addition of our local and ultra recovery vaults enables end users to very cost effectively have local vaults for quick backups and restores, then sync up with our managed service vault or their remote vault during off hours," adds Kandrac. Also, new support for AES-256 encryption ensures that customers have access to the latest encryption algorithms.
