How MySQL integration with DB2 Opens Up a World of Possibilities
Webcast Recording
MySQL is an open source database used in conjunction with languages such as PHP to power millions of web sites and applications. Scott Klement, technical editor for System iNews, will explain in more detail what MySQL is, how it works and and how you can use it on the IBM i. You'll learn how MySQL is now tightly integrated on IBM i, and how you can use MySQL with existing DB2 tables, or use it natively with PHP code to create cross-platform web applications. Also, Scott will show you how having strong MySQL and PHP support on the IBM i opens up a whole world of open-source apps, such as Flyspray for bug tracking, Wordpress or Drupal for content management, SugarCRM for CRM app, etc.
Having tight MySQL and DB2 integration on IBM i is all well and good. But how do you go about building real world applications using these technologies with limited or no web programming experience? Duncan Kenzie, President and CTO of BCD Technical Services, will show you how WebSmart ILE and WebSmart PHP's integrated database support and intelligent templates enable you to build web applications in ILE RPG or PHP using the native DB2 database. You'll see how you can use record level access, DB2 SQL or MySQL functions to build your apps. With the new support for MySQL on IBM i, you'll see how using WebSmart PHP now makes even more sense, because you can use it to develop applications over existing DB2 tables or over new MySQL tables and databases. Either way, you have completely transportable code that can run on other platforms too.
