This podcast discusses why you should consider transitioning from DDS to SQL.
constraints (RI, primary key, etc) can be used with DDS built tables as well via the ADDPFCST command so it's a wash on that one. which is most likely why they were not mentioned as being only in SQL/DDL tables...
I notice that nothing was mentioned concerning the performance enhancements you supposedly receive from using SQL defined tables and indexes. Is IBM not claiming any performance benefits any longer? Also, I did not hear any mention of the advantages of SQL defined tables and the fact that data being written to the data base is validated at the time that the data is written where with DDS the data is validated when you read it. I think of this as a significant advantage to using SQL. Less likely to get garbage in the database. The other thing I did not hear was the fact that SQL defined tables support constraints. I can enter constraints like the value of a field must be Y or N and no one can write a record without the value being Y or N. I consider this one of the key things to using SQL defined tables. I can create tables that people cannot put garbage. The other one is that SQL supports Primary keys as well as unique. Most information to the SQL run time. This is the primary key on the table. I guess in summary there are a lot of advantages not mentioned in the podcast.
