Atmel Corporation [1] is supplying CryptoRF, an RFID anticounterfeiting device with a 64-bit embedded cryptographic engine. The solution runs on the System i and other servers that are equipped with an appropriate reader. Rather than using passwords, CryptoRF devices use the authentication keys, session encryption keys, and a random number to generate a unique identity for each transaction. The host reader and the CryptoRF device must both be able to duplicate each other’s cryptograms before any data can be accessed or written. Notably, the solution stores a complete history of a product's ownership, distribution, and disposition.
